Los Angeles - Martin Scorsese is the frontrunner to direct a movie about the love story of the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
Paramount Pictures is finalising a deal to develop a project based on Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger's book Furious Love, Deadline.com reports.
Julie Yorn, Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff are set to produce the movie.
Tempestuous relationship
The movie will tell of the tempestuous relationship between the pair, who first met on the set of 1963's Cleopatra and married - and divorced - twice but never recovered from their time together, making it one of Hollywood's best known love stories.
The producers have also struck up a deal with Burton's estate, with his widow Sally Hay Burton agreeing to make his library available.
A script writer has yet to be confirmed.
Scorsese recently completed work on 3D movie Hugo Cabret with Sacha Baron Cohen and Chloe Moretz, and is also attached to a project about Frank Sinatra.
