Los Angeles – Matt Damon is in talks to join the cast of Elysium.
The Oscar-winning actor and screenwriter is reportedly in early negotiations to appear in Neill Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi drama alongside South African actor Sharlto Copley who starred in District 9 – the acclaimed movie directed by the South African-born Blomkamp.
While the Invictus star's role in the movie has not yet been confirmed, Matt and his management team are said to be in the first stage of discussions about whether a role in the drama would work out for him.
If he does agree to appear in Elysium – the details of which are largely surrounded in mystery at present – it will be the first time an A-list star has featured in one of Blomkamp's films.
Plot details for the movie are currently being kept under wraps, but it is believed the sci-fi action will take place on a distant planet in the distant future.
District 9 catapulted writer-director Blomkamp and breakout star Copley into the limelight in 2009, with the film nominated for four Academy Awards this year, including Best Picture. Copley has since gone on to star in The A-Team opposite Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper, though Blomkamp has yet to follow up his hit movie.
