Los Angeles - Meryl Streep wants a cameo in Anchorman: The Legend Continues.
The Oscar-winning actress is hoping to make an appearance in the sequel to Will Ferrell's side-splitting 2004 comedy about hapless news reader Ron Burgundy, and has approached returning cast member Steve Carell about getting her a role.
He told Shortlist magazine: "Meryl Streep told me she was a huge Anchorman fan and she'd love to have a cameo in the sequel. That could be really funny. There are going to be plenty of great cameos in this movie."
'I love lamp'
Newcomers Kristen Wiig and Harrison Ford have signed on to star alongside original cast members Steve, Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Christina Applegate, and Steve is hoping the all-star line-up will boost the laughs in the sequel and provide some more memorable improvised comic moments.
Quizzed as to whether his infamous Anchorman quote, 'I love lamp', was improvised, Steve admitted: "It was. Sometimes Adam [McKay, the director] would say to us, 'At the end of this scene, just add something, whatever you like.' I started naming things I saw in the room - 'I love rug, I love lamp' - and Will [Ferrell] called me on it as the cameras were still rolling.
"He was like, 'Are you just looking at things and saying you love them?' And that's what ended up in the movie."
