Los Angeles - Action movie Real Steel, a futuristic story about father-and-son bonding through robot boxing, won the US weekend box office, according to studio estimates compiled by Reuters on Sunday.
Real Steel, starring Hugh Jackman, brought in an estimated $27.3m in ticket sales at US and Canadian cinemas, distributor Walt Disney said.
George Clooney's new political thriller, Ides of March, landed in second place with $10.4m. Third place went to family Dolphin Tale with $9.2m.
In fourth place was Brad Pitt's baseball drama Moneyball with $7.5m, and in fifth the cancer comedy 50/50, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen.
