Roepman wins over audiences

Cape Town – Afrikaans film Roepman has been a hit in cinemas on its opening weekend resulting in successful box office predictions.

Based on the novel by Jan van Tonder with the same title, Roepman opened in cinemas at the weekend with strong support from audiences.

Pieter Geldenhuys, Independent Marketing Executive for Ster Kinekor Entertainment, confirmed that 15 000 people watched the movie and predicted that it would pass the R500 000 box-office mark on Monday, with the current box-office being R477 211.

Roepman opened at number 4 on the top 10 box-office list, with only three Hollywood blockbusters ahead of it namely Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides, Fast and Furious 5 and Thor.

It has also been one of the 10 best opening weekends ever for an Afrikaans movie with many critics calling it "one of the best Afrikaans movies in a long time and a milestone in the Afrikaans movie industry".
