Johannesburg - The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission, is leading a South African delegation to the Cannes International Film Festival.

The festival, which runs from 13 to 24 May, is not only a platform to market local films but gives filmmakers the chance to raise more funding for their films and international distribution for their products.

Zama Nkosi, chief executive office of the NFVF, said: "The festival is one of our strategic platforms where we offer our local filmmakers an opportunity to negotiate co-production deals with filmmakers from treaty countries."

During the festival Mkosi will be taking part in discussions with Algeria, Kenya, Ivory Coast and Nigeria. "We will hold a roundtable discussion with the aim of telling a positive African story to the rest of the world," she added.

The NFVF will also screen South African films as part of a South African Showcase. They include:

• Ayanda, a coming of age story about a 21-year-old Afro hipster produced by Terry Pheto and directed by Sara Blecher.

• Stone Cold Jane Austen, a reality-style comedy by radio presenter, musical director, singer and songwriter Jon Savage.
