Sacha's The Dictator loses his beard

Cape Town - A new extended trailer for Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy The Dictator has been released, giving more insight into the plot of the political satire.

Sacha plays two roles in the film, a foreign dictator and a goat herder, who both travel to the United States.

The Dictator is General Aladeen, who "risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed", according to the film's synopsis on IMDb.

Tyrannical tendencies

In the trailer, General Aladeen arrives in the US under the impression that he's been invited to address the United Nations. But the CIA captures him and shaves off his trademark beard, leaving him to fend for himself on the streets of New York.

There he meets a young woman (played by Anna Faris) who takes him in and gives him a job at her organic food store. But his tyrannical tendencies keep getting the way, making for some typically uproarious scenes of mayhem.

The Dictator also stars Ben Kingsley, John C Reilly and Megan Fox, who makes a cameo as herself. Larry Charles, who also worked with Sacha on Borat and Brüno, reunites with Sacha as director.

The Dictator is set to be released in South Africa by United International Pictures on July 13.
