Samuel L Jackson to star in new Stephen King movie

Los Angeles - Samuel L. Jackson has joined Cell.

The 64-year-old actor will star opposite John Cusack in Tod 'Kip' Williams' apocalyptic thriller, based on the 2006 novel by Stephen King, according to Variety.

Jackson will play Tom McCourt, an engineer and former soldier who escapes from Boston, while Cusack will be Clay Riddell.

The story follows an artist who is struggling to reunite with his son after a mysterious signal broadcast across the global phone network turns humans into mindless vicious creatures.

Other names involved

Richard Saperstein, Michael Benaroya, Brian Witten and Shara Kay will produce the movie, while Edward Mokhtarian, Armen Aghaeian, Xavier Gens, and Laurence Freed will executive produce.

King and Adam Alleca penned the script for the movie and filming is expected to kick off in January.

Jackson can next be seen in Spike Lee's Oldboy and is believed to be reprising his Marvel Cinematic Universe role in next year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Nick Fury.
