Scarlett Johansson: I've made it

Los Angeles - Scarlett Johansson feels she has "made it" after receiving a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

The Avengers actress was recently recognised with a permanent tribute to her 20-year movie career and despite having a string of box office successes behind her, she admits it is only now she has been given the star that she feels successful.

She said: "I was totally thrilled. I feel very nostalgic about that kind of thing. I think it's a wonderful tradition and I felt like I'd finally made it. I really did.

Sex symbol

"I've been in the industry for 20 years and I've worked since I was kid, and it felt like a real milestone. Although I'm not sure where it is - I'm hoping outside one of those horrible shops on Hollywood Boulevard!"

Scarlett admits she has never wanted to be seen as a sex symbol, but is hopeful now she is getting older people will begin to think of her beyond her beauty.

She added to Total Film magazine: "I never wanted to be a sex symbol. I wanted to be a character actor.

"Those are the actors I often mostly admire.

"But I think women that are curvy can be pigeonholed in that bombshell thing.

"I never think of my characters that way. What can you do about it?

"As I get older, I think I'm seeing more multifaceted roles. I'm past the ingénue phase, which I'm very thankful for but I'm happy it's over."
