Shock as Mandela actors fail to secure BAFTA nominations

London -  Idris Elba is confused by Naomie Harris' BAFTA snub.

Both Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom stars failed to secure nominations in acting fields for the new biographical drama and Elba is upset that his co-star, who played Winnie Mandela, wasn't nominated.

The 41-year-old actor hinted he would fly into a rage similar to his TV character, John Luther, in hit show Luther.

He wrote on Twitter: "Ok peeps, ...I've got an appointment at the @BAFTA I'm gonna do a #Lutherrage and ask where @NaomieHarris nomination? (sic0"

While the stars won't be up for prizes, Mandela is nominated for Outstanding British Film alongside Gravity, Philomena, Rush, Saving Mr. Banks and The Selfish Giant.

Elba and Harris will both be in contention for Golden Globes at the annual Hollywood awards ceremony this weekend, with the actor up for Best Actor for his role as Nelson Mandela and Harris up for Best Supporting Actress.

The British star previously downplayed Oscar buzz for his portrayal of the late South African revolutionary and said it was an honour to screen the film for Mandela's relatives.

He said: "For us, showing this film to Winnie Mandela, and Zindzi Mandela, and to the people of South Africa, that was recognition. That's like as big as your Oscar can get, 'cause they loved the film, they were very touched by it and so were we to present it to them."
