South African filmmaker wins Jameson short film competition

Cape Town – South African filmmaker Mark Middlewick was one of three filmmakers who won the 2015 Jameson Short First Shot competition.

The annual competition hosted by Jameson and partnered with Kevin Spacey’s Trigger Street Productions helps unknown filmmakers get their scripts published. They help to fund and facilitate the winners with their short films.

This year Oscar winner Adrien Brody will play the lead in all three films. Previous leads include Kevin Spacey, Uma Thurman and William Dafoe.

Mark’s script, The Mascot tells the story of Adam, a mascot of a basketball team who loses his job. He decides to confront the person who replaces him. Filming has just been completed and the film is expected to air in June.
