Star Trek director 'excited' by sequel

Los Angeles - J.J. Abrams is "really excited to get back into" the Star Trek sequel.

The director's latest film Super 8 has just been released, and he is now back to focusing on the long awaited next Star Trek project, but warned he will not be rushed because he "cares" too much about it.

He said: "I certainly think that we want to make sure that it's done right. The guys we're working with are obviously brilliant, so I'm really excited to get back into Star Trek.

No 3D plans

"I care much more than it be good than it be ready. We're obviously doing everything we can to make sure that schedules don't get screwed up, but I don't think anyone wants a movie on time that's not worth your time."

The filmmaker also said he has no plans to shoot the film in 3D, but said that depending on the wishes of studio bosses, this could be a possibility.

He jokingly added to Collider.com: "I'm not yet considering 3D, but I haven't gotten that threatening phone call from people in suits saying, 'If you know what's good for you ...'"

The script for Star Trek 2 - written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof - was originally planned to be ready for 2009, but the film has since been put back to December 2012.
