TV exec sues over withdrawn child sex abuse case

Los Angeles — A former network TV executive is suing a man who recently withdrew a lawsuit that accused the executive of sexual abuse years ago.

Garth Ancier filed a malicious prosecution lawsuit Friday against Michael Egan III and his two lawyers.

Ancier has been a high-level executive for NBC, Fox and other television networks. He says in his lawsuit that Egan knew the abuse claims were false and the case never should have been filed.

Egan has claimed Ancier abused him in Hawaii in 1999 when he was 17. He sued in May, just days before a law that extended the statute of limitations on sex abuse lawsuits in Hawaii expired.

Egan withdrew the lawsuit Wednesday, three weeks after he withdrew a similar suit against another former TV executive.

Egan's lawyers — Jeff Herman, of Florida, and Mark Gallagher, of Hawaii — did not immediately return emails seeking comment.
