Los Angeles - The Terminator is coming back.
It was announced on Thursday that Paramount, in partnership with Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures, will be giving James Cameron's Terminator franchise new life.
The original series was a huge success and became a cult classic, having earned more than $1 billion with its premieres and the first movie has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Terminator character is also one of actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger's most iconic role of his career.
Schwarzenegger will be returning for the reboot and internet rumours have pointed towards Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as being cast in the role of the villain Terminator. Laeta Kalorgridis, of Avatar and Shutter Island, and Patrick Lussier, from Drive Angry, will be working on the screenplay.
Paramount says it will release the new Terminator in July 2015.
