Tom Hiddleston for The Crow remake

Los Angeles - Tom Hiddleston is in talks to star in a remake of The Crow.

The Avengers actor has entered negotiations with Relativity Media to star in its new adaptation of the popular James O'Barr comic book series, according to TheWrap.com.

Hiddleston reportedly sent test footage wearing the iconic character's black-and-white make-up to producers for the film and is expected to undergo a proper make-up test in the coming days.

The Crow was first made into a movie in 1994 starring Bruce Lee's son Brandon Lee. The film was overshadowed by tragedy as Lee was killed by a prop gun which, while filled with blanks, had a real bullet cartridge lodged in the barrel unbeknownst to the cast and crew.

The darkly-toned film and comic books centre on a man who returns from the grave to avenge his death.

The remake is being produced by Ed Pressman, Kevin Misher, Ryan Kavanaugh and Jeff Most.

Hiddleston has also recently signed on to star in Capa, a biopic about famed war photographer Robert Capa.

The actor will next reprise his role as mischievous villain Loki in Thor: The Dark World later this year and is expected to be involved The Avengers 2, which is set for release in 2015.
