Top Gun 2 secures new writer

Los Angeles  - The studio behind Top Gun 2 hope to secure The Jungle Book writer, Justin Marks.

The sequel to the original Top Gun film, starring Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis, has been in the works since 2010, but sadly lost momentum after the then-director Tony Scott tragically killed himself in 2012.

However, with the help of a new writer, the studios are hoping that production can soon kick into gear once again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Justin is currently in discussions with Paramount studios and Skydance productions to write the script for their new project, Top Gun 2.

Up until recently, Justin had been busy writing the script for the live-action version of the Rudyard Kipling novel, 'The Jungle Book'.

Top Gun 2 will reportedly focus on the return of the pilot, Maverick (Cruise) and will focus on the skills of traditional flight crew compared to the popularity of drones in today's environment.

Jerry Bruckheimer is slated to produce the film with the Star Trek Into Darkness producer David Ellison and the help of executive producer, Dana Goldberg.

Justin has previously worked with the Deliver Us From Evil producer, Jerry before on the dog-based Disney film, War Dogs.
