Los Angeles - Uggie the dog is to release his memoir.

The 10-year-old Jack Russell who retired from showbiz following his star-making performance in Oscar-winning movie The Artist last year, will reveal new details about his celebrity lifestyle in a book entitled Uggie: My Story.

The pooch has dedicated the time to his celebrity crush Reese Witherspoon, who he starred alongside in Water for Elephants, and in the book he tells of a time when he once killed a cat and another occasion when he got drunk after sipping champagne from a glass left on the floor.

Book urges people to adopt homeless pets

As well as several jokes and hilarious true stories, Uggie also uses the book to urge people to adopt pets who have been left homeless.

In an extract from the memoir, he writes: "I may be the first dog to win an Oscar and write a best-seller but my most important work is with animal rescue. Please adopt - and if you must buy, buy my book!"

Uggie collaborated with biographer Wendy Holden on the project, which is released on 16 October through Gallery Books and the four-legged friend has told readers to expect some "real treats" about his life in the tome.

"Expect some real treats. Perhaps not quite as tasty as pizza, but still lip-smackingly good. Not just the stories of how I got into showbiz or why I fell nose over paws in love with my divine Miss W (that's Reese Witherspoon to the rest of you), but also the dirty doggie truth about Cat-Gate," Uggie teased about his memoirs.
