Vin Diesel wants Ang Lee for Kojak

Los Angeles - Vin Diesel wants Ang Lee to direct him in Kojak.

The Fast & Furious star is eager for the Oscar-winning Life of Pi director to join his latest project, which is a remake of the classic 1970s TV series.

Quizzed which director he'd like to work with in future, the star wrote on his Facebook page, "Kojak... New York... Ang Lee (sic)".

Long time to get off the ground

The long-gestating movie was first announced in December 2012 but has yet to confirm a director, which would certainly allow Diesel's dream to come true.

Diesel will play the titular tough-talking New York police officer, who was first portrayed by Telly Savalas in the US series.

The character was famed for his love of lollipops and his signature catchphrase, "Who loves ya, baby?" Ving Rhames played the character in a short-lived 2005 TV revival, but the show was quickly cancelled.

Others involved

Universal Pictures is set to finance the film and Diesel will produce alongside his One Race Films producing partner Samantha Vincent.

The film's script comes from Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who penned the blockbuster James Bond flick Skyfall.

Diesel is currently shooting Fast & Furious 7 and will voice Groot in Marvel's superhero blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. Both films are due for release in 2014.
