Voldemort wears garters

London – Ralph Fiennes, who plays the villainous Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies, has revealed that he wore garters beneath his costume during the filming of the final movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

When asked at a press conference On Wednesday what his favourite costume or prop from the movie series was, Fiennes said that he liked his wand and false teeth, but did not enjoy working in his “irritating” costume.

“It was too long and sometimes I would trip over it,” he said. “Underneath I would start wearing tights and the gusset kept dropping down between my thighs and this made it very difficult to walk with any kind of dignity. So eventually I said to my dresser, ‘You’re going to have to cut these tights and I’m going to have garters at the top’. So I enjoyed having this garter belt on each leg. Sometimes when the stunt team were getting too macho I would tease them with my inner thigh,” said Fiennes to guffaws from the assembled media.

“People will never look at Voldemort the same way,” quipped producer Heyman.

Props

Rupert Grint, who plays Harry Potter’s loyal best friend Ron Weasley, and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) quickly shared that their favourite props were, respectively, the flying car from  Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and the Sword of Gryffindor, before both made their apologies and dashed out of the press conference, held at the lavish St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in King’s Cross, for a little bathroom break.

King’s Cross is also the train station where the Hogwarts Express departs from platform nine and three quarters in JK Rowling’s beloved series of books. The station even has a sign for platform nine and three quarters at its Euston Street entrance. Needless to say, the sign is a huge tourist attraction.

Michael Gambon, who plays Dumbledore, revealed that he liked annoying his costume dresser, who wouldn’t allow him to remove his long grey beard during breaks, by purposefully placing his chips and fried sausage lunch into the fake beard.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the final film in the series, will celebrate its world premiere at a massive event to be held at London’s Trafalgar and Leicester Square on Thursday. Thousands of fans have been camping in Trafalgar Square for the opportunity to see the stars of the film take to the red carpet.
