The Theory of Everything actress will reportedly take the female lead role in the project after actresses went for their reading and testing meetings in Los Angeles last week, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara were other possible female leads whilst the production company are reportedly interested in Aaron Paul or Edgar Ramirez for the male lead role.

The 31-year-old actress has made quite a name for herself after starring as Stephen Hawking's first wife, Jane in the biographical drama about his life, receiving an Oscar and a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Jane.

Meanwhile, Chris Weitz was recently confirmed as the screenwriter for the upcoming Star Wars movie.

The 45-year-old director - who has worked on a wide range of films, including About a Boy and The Twilight Saga: New Moon - has replaced Gary Whitta, who left the project after writing the script's first draft.

Few details have been released about the Disney and Lucasfilm project but it is known that 'Godzilla' director, Gareth Edwards, will take the helm.

The highly anticipated movie is just one of two Star Wars spin-offs currently in the works and the movie is expected to be released on 16 December 2016.
