Hugh also revealed that plans to make another Wolverine movie are progressing.
He said: "I have been speaking to the guys and I'm not at liberty to say exactly what's going on, [but] there are some very exciting things about integrating the whole X-Men world, including the Wolverine movie. There are some really cool things going on."
This is the latest X Men film, X-Men: Days of Future Past:
Assuming Hugh is cast in X-Men: Apocalypse, he will appear on screen alongside a host of Hollywood stars, including the likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, all of whom would reprise the roles they played earlier in the franchise.
Last month, it was also revealed that Oscar Isaac had signed on to play Apocalypse in the movie, which is set for release in 2016.
Meanwhile, The Wolverine sequel is scheduled to be released on 3 March 2017.
