Cape Town - Yolandi Vi$$er's big Hollywood break will have to wait.
Rumours that Die Antwoord's Yolandi Vi$$er was in the running for the lead role of troubled punk hacker Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake have been quashed by director David Fincher.
In a video interview with 2OceansVibe's Seth Rotherham, Fincher revealed that he never met the First Lady of Zef while he was casting the movie.
The role eventually went to US actress Rooney Mara.
'She looked fantastic'
When asked if he was aware of the rumours that Yolandi was being cast as Lisbeth, Fincher clearly grimaces and says: "No, not that she was being cast."
Fincher explained that he was sent a photo of Yolandi and he thought "she looked fantastic" and then watched a few of Die Antwoord's music videos when he discovered she was in a band.
"I had talked about her to somebody as a visage [for the character] and they said 'Oh, she's going to be in town! You should meet her', and I said fantastic... and then it never happened."
Boing Boing reported in July this year that Yo-Landi had rejected the role when it was allegedly offered to her.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a remake of the Swedish film (originally released in 2009 starring Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth) based on Stieg Larsson's bestselling Millenium Trilogy.
The remake also stars Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård and Robin Wright and is set for release in South Africa on January 6, 2012.
