Los Angeles - Zayn Malik is in talks to star in a movie.

The 22-year-old singer - who quit One Direction last month to go solo - is now reportedly looking to try his hand at film making and has already entered into discussions with Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha.

Gurinder, 55, told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We've met and spoken. He trained as an actor first then became part of the band.

"So I think what he'll be doing is staying true to his heart - and that's all you can ever do."

However, Gurinder - who is currently working on Bollywood-inspired Bend It Like Beckham: The Musical - insists she doesn't have a role planned out for the star "just yet".

She explained: "I don't have a part in mind for Zayn just yet but hopefully in the future."

Zayn recently confessed to being a huge fan of Bollywood movies and admitted he's always been a ''lover boy'' and able to charm the ladies thanks to growing up watching his favourite film Bombay.

The heartthrob - who is engaged to Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards - said: "I was a lover boy around the age of ten. I always had an idea from an early age what it was like to be in love - it was only later I figured it out!"
