A cannibal horror flick made people pass out at TIFF

Cape Town – A new horror flick is so gruesome that people actually passed out after watching it.

French-Belgian film Raw premiered at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this week at a midnight screening.

Written and directed by Julia Ducournau the film centres on a vegetarian becoming a cannibal after she is forced to eat raw rabbit live during initiation at a veterinary school.

During the screening of the film two moviegoers fell ill and fainted.

According to the Hollywood Reporter paramedics were called to the scene to attend a minor medical incident.

A publicist for the movie, Ryan Werner said an ambulance was called after the movie became too much for viewers.

The film will screen next at  the Fantastic Fest, Mayhem Film Festival, Celluloid Screams, Beyond Fest and the Sitges Film Festival.

A release for the film is yet to be confirmed.
