Alex Pettyfer reveals the truth behind that Channing Tatum feud on the set of Magic Mike

Los Angeles - Alex Pettyfer has confirmed he and Channing Tatum feuded while filming Magic Mike, so much so he was "scared to speak" on set.

The 25-year-old actor claims the Channing was "looking for an excuse not to like me", but he was the one who ended up with a bad reputation while shooting the male stripper movie because he wouldn't talk to anyone on set after being advised to keep a low-profile by his representatives.

He said: "Channing Tatum does not like me - and for many reasons and many being my own fault.

"I was scared to speak. I actually did my work and I sat in the corner and listened to music because I had been told anything I did was wrong by my reps. I was very insecure as a human being.

"That also gave me a bad rep because everyone was like, 'Alex doesn't speak because he thinks he's better than everyone else.' That's not true. I was just generally nervous and scared to be myself. I was in character.'

Alex claims Channing wasn't that keen on hiring him for the film - in which the pair played male strippers - and insists the Step Up actor took a further disliking to him when he failed to pay the rent on a flat he was staying at which was owned by one of the 35-year-old star's friends.

Speaking to Bret Easton Ellis on his podcast B.E.E, Alex added: "All of a sudden, I got a very negative email from Channing - rightfully so - saying, 'Don't fuck my friends. You owe money. Pay the fucking money. Don't be a clown.'

"And I really took that the wrong way, which I shouldn't have, and emailed him back and said, 'I'm in a real negative headspace and can you respect me for a moment and blah, blah, blah.' And I got hounded through this time of grieving for money.

"By the end of it, I just said, 'Fuck them, what is money when life is so much more. I'm not paying.' And I should have just paid. I think he was looking for an excuse to not like me.'

Despite their feud, Alex insists he wouldn't change the filming of Magic Mike "for anything" and the experience helped him call time on his "immaturity".
