All the deets on Cate Blanchett's villainous role in Thor: Ragnarok

Los Angeles - Cate Blanchett is to play a villain in Thor: Ragnarok.

Earlier this month, it was revealed the 46-year-old actress had signed up to the third Thor film and now it's been reported she has joined Marvel's cinematic universe as Hela, the daughter of the God of Mischief Loki and the leader of the dead souls of the Nine Realms, according to Geek.com.

The site reports that Blanchett will be seen "complete with her cloak and power over the dead souls of the Nine Realms" and will reach Asgard to wreak havoc with her father - played by Tom Hiddleston.

The Norse apocalypse or Ragnorak - which translated means "the doom of the gods" - will transpire as the comic books depicts it, which includes a great battle and an uprising of dead spirits.

Mark Ruffalo revealed his character Bruce Banner - who turns into The Incredible Hulk whenever he gets angry - and his friendship with Chris Hemsworth's Thor, will feature heavily and there will be elements of a classic on the road buddy story, despite the main characters being superheroes.

He said previously: "It is a universal road movie - that's where we're heading. It's not where you'd think it will be, so it's not your classic road movie but it has that structure, I think."

Blanchett is no stranger to playing fantasy characters and has starred as Galadriel, the co-ruler of the Lothlórien in 'The Lord of The Rings' franchise.

Thor: Ragnarok will be directed What We Do in the Shadows' filmmaker Taika Waititi and is slated for release in November 2017.
