Bradley Cooper cast in new World War II drama

Los Angeles - Bradley Cooper has been cast in new World War II drama Atlantic Wall.

The Hollywood star is poised to play a US paratrooper who is operating behind enemy lines in the Gavin O'Connor-directed movie, which has been scripted by Zach Dean.

Atlantic Wall producer Dan Friedkin of Imperative Entertainment told Deadline: "We're thrilled Imperative is bringing Atlantic Wall to life on screen with a talented filmmaker like Gavin.

"Bradley's phenomenal track record speaks for itself. He's perfect to portray our complicated, often reluctant hero. We can't imagine better creative partners."

Bradley - who previously starred as a marksman in the controversial American Sniper - is also executive producing the movie, which is based on a paratrooper who finds himself stranded behind enemy lines hours before D-Day.

He is charged with the task of delivering intelligence that is critical to the outcome of the war, while he is also trying to protect the son of a murdered ally.
Meanwhile, Bradley recently cited sobriety as the reason for his success.

The 41-year-old star has emerged as one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood over the last decade, and Bradley - who stopped drinking in his late 20s - thinks the decision he made to transform his life was both "beautiful and unbelievable".

He said: "I wouldn't have been able to have access to myself or other people, or even been able to take in other people, if I hadn't changed my life.

"I never would have been able to have the relationships that I do. I never would have been able to take care of my father the way I did when he was sick. So many things."
