Divergent fans will have to watch the next movie on TV

Cape Town – The Divergent saga starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort will meet its end on the small screen.

The franchise was based on the popular young adult novels by Veronica Roth.

The fourth instalment of the series which centres on a futuristic society will conclude with a television movie and then carry on as a stand along spin-off series.

Ascendant was scheduled to start shooting later this year in Atlanta and was scheduled for release in June 2017.

However, after the third film, Allegiant, performed poorly at the box office the studio came up with a new strategy.

According to Variety Lionsgate television group will handle the production, the storylines and new cast appointments to carry on the television series have yet to be finalised.

It is still unclear whether Woodley, James and Elgort will return for the final film.
