Los Angeles - Elizabeth Banks has joined the cast of Power Rangers.
The Pitch Perfect 2 director will star as a villain, Rita Repulsa the alien witch, in the big-screen reboot of the television show.
A message on the movie's official Instagram page read:

She joins a cast of relative unknowns for the movie, which is being directed by Dean Israelite.
The movie stars Becky G. as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger.

It reimagines the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as a group of high-school teenagers who receive extraterrestrial powers and come together to save the world.
The TV series previously inspired a movie, the 1995 flick Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.
The movie is set to be released in March 2017.
