Cape Town – The upcoming film, A Dog's Purpose, has been shrouded in controversy since footage of a dog being forced into churning water on set was leaked.
Gossip website TMZ posted a minute-long video which it says was shot during production of the film.
It shows a German shepherd apparently terrified to get into a pool and a trainer forcing the dog into the water.
PETA has called for a boycott of the movie and after the public outcry Universal Pictures cancelled the premiere.
Dennis Quaid, who stars in the film, addressed the issue during a recent appearance on The Ellen Show.
The actor said that he doesn’t think the video tells the whole story.
"I would not be on a set that had any kind of abuse towards animals, any animals, or people. I know in my experience that the dogs I worked with and the donkey were treated with the greatest respect and care and compassion," said Quaid.
