Cape Town – A first look of Angelina Jolie's Netflix film, First they Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, has been released.
The film is based on Loung Ung's memoir of her childhood during the communist Khmer and the country's 1970s holocaust in which 1.7 million people were killed.
This has been a long running passion project for Jolie who is friends with the author.
In earlier interviews Jolie said she felt a deep connection to Cambodia and that she wants to respect its history and bring a film to the world that will not only show the hardships of war but the dignity and resilience of the people. (Read more here)
For the film only Cambodian actors were used and the language spoken is their native Khmer.
In the clip we see some harrowing scenes, accompanied by commentary from Jolie, Ung, producer Rithy Panh and some of the actors in the film.
