Cape Town – Hidden Figures continues its box office ride with a new record.
The film based on the true story of three black female mathematicians integral to the early success of the American space program, has become the highest grossing Oscar nominee at the box office.
According to Box Office Mojo the film made $120m domestically kicking La La Land which made $118.8m out of the top spot.
Hidden Figures which stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae has also been performing well during awards season.
It won a Screen Actors Guild award, Women Film Critics Circle awards, Santa Barbara International Film Festival award and African-American Film Critics Association awards to name a few. (Read more here)
It's nominations at the Academy Awards include Best Picture and a Best Supporting Actress nod for Spencer.
