It's a wrap for Wonder Woman

Los Angeles - Gal Gadot has wrapped filming on Wonder Woman and says she will "cherish" the experience of starring in the movie "forever".

The 30-year-old Israeli actress stars as the superhero and her alter ego Diana Prince in first DC Comics film to focus solely on the character following her appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Gal has taken to Facebook to praise director Patty Jenkins for making the production a "dreamy" experience.

Alongside a mini clip of her slapping down a black and white director's 'cut' board, she wrote: "Today was my last day shooting the solo Wonder Woman movie! It's been such an amazing, exciting, dreamy, happy and fascinating experience I will cherish it forever. Thank you to everyone who was involved, our amazing cast, crew and phenomenal director."

The movie - which also stars Chris Pine, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen - is part of the new DC Comics Extended Universe and it is believed that production on Wonder Woman was increased so work could get started on Justice League: Part One, which reunites Gal with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill as Batman and Superman respectively and introduces Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

Gadot has previously revealed that Wonder Woman will be "dark" and a "coming of age" tale.

She explained: "In Wonder Woman, this would be the first time we ever tell the coming-of-age story of how Diana becomes Wonder Woman. It's very interesting. It has moments of humour, but it's pretty dark."

The story of Wonder Woman dates back a century to her beginnings as the warrior princess of the Amazons
