Los Angeles - Ben Affleck is to star in and direct a stand-alone Batman movie.
The 43-year-old actor - who portrayed the Caped Crusader for the first time in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - will return to the DC cinematic universe, Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara has confirmed.
Speaking at CinemaCon about the success of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the executive said: "It set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020.
"I'm also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie."
Though there isn't a release date slated for the film, it has been speculated it will take one of two slots Warner Bros. recently reserved for two untitled DC films, one on October 5, 2018 and the other November 1, 2019, with the other date expected to be for Suicide Squad 2.
The DC films already scheduled include Suicide Squad (August 5, 2016), The Justice League Part One (November 17, 2017), The Flash (March 16, 2018), Wonder Woman (June 2, 2017) Aquaman (July 27, 2018), Shazam! (April 5, 2019), Justice League Part Two (June 14, 2019), Cyborg (April 3, 2020) and Green Lantern Corps (June 19, 2020).
