Cape Town – Not one or two but three films with a war theme are showing in South African cinemas this weekend.
Although it opened a few week ago, War for the Planet of the Apes is currently showing on the silver screen and will be joined by two new historical war dramas.
Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated Dunkirk hits the big screen, starring former One Direction band member Harry Styles in his breakout role.
Also in cinemas is historical drama Viceroy's House that retells the events that shaped the creation of Islamic Pakistan.
Here are the 2 new films at the local box office:
Movie: Dunkirk
Our rating: 5/5
Short review: Nolan’s film rises and retracts like the salty waters on Dunkirk’s beaches, swaying back and forth between complete calmness and utter devastation.
Movie: Viceroy's House
Our rating: 4/5
Short review: Though it at first feels like a "white saviour" story told through the main perspective of the British Viceroy, it redeems itself by highlighting the hand the British government had in violence during the Partition of India.
ALSO SHOWING AT CINEMAS:
- Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
- Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
- War for the Planet of the Apes
