Marvel's new Iron Man is not white or a man

Cape Town – Marvel has just released details on who will take over the reins from Tony Stark.

In an interview with Time, Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis revealed that the new Iron Man will be a 15-year-old teenage black girl, Riri Matthews.

Marvel took to Twitter to release the first image of the new character.

Chicago born Matthews is a science genius studying at MIT. She draws the attention of Tony Stark when she builds an Iron Man suit in her dorm room.

Speaking about the character Bendis says that the character is a modern version of a superhero.

"And this story of this brilliant, young woman whose life was marred by tragedy that could have easily ended her life — just random street violence — and went off to college was very inspiring to me."

This new character joins the ever expanding diverse world of Marvel.
