Los Angeles - Michael Bay is officially directing Transformers 5 - but it will be his last foray with the franchise.
The 50-year-old filmmaker has confirmed he's helming the next film in the blockbuster franchise, but claims after this one he is calling it a day.
He said: "I'm doing Transformers ... 5, is it? I've taken on a lot of work. ... It's fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else."
Despite being told by Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams that he's the only person who can control the franchise, he believes it's time to leave Transformers behind.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: "J.J. told me, 'You're the only guy that could do this.' But it's time to move on. One more."
However, this isn't the first time Bay - who helmed all four previous Transformers movies - has threatened to leave the franchise as he has stated twice before he wants to walk away from the multi-billion dollar series.
The eagerly-anticipated film is yet to receive an official release date but, it's expected to hit the big screen in early 2017.
In the meantime, Bay is busy promoting his latest film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi which is set for release on 29 January in the UK.
