Cape Town – The movie offering at the cinema this weekend is not for the faint-hearted.

There's the true life story of the Boston Marathon, a slave rebellion based on the life of Nate Turner and a coming of age drama that focuses on grief and loss.

And if you're looking to treat the kids there's a monster movie that the little ones will enjoy.

Here are 4 new films at the local box office:

Movie: The Birth of a Nation

Our rating: 2/5

Short review: A sometimes admirable but deeply flawed drama set during the height of America's shameful period of slavery, The Birth of a Nation is no 12 Years a Slave.

Our rating: 5/5

Short review: In a time when terrorist attacks are prevalent, films like these are important. They show that evil will never prevail over good.
