Cape Town – The reimagining of the classic jungle hero Tarzan swings into cinemas this weekend.
Alexander Skarsgard plays the titular leading character in The Legend of Tarzan and Margot Robbie is his Jane. This time around he has to save a new friend from an old foe.
Also in cinema is Bruce Willis in a crime thriller, Colin Firth and Jude Law in a literary drama and the true story of Gaza's first Idol.
Here are 4 new movies releasing in South Africa today:
Movie: The Legend of Tarzan
Our rating: 2/5
Short review: If you are looking for a movie that you don’t have to concentrate while watching on date night then this might be the one for you, but otherwise in a year with a lot of strong cinematic offerings, avoid it.
Movie: Marauders
Our rating: 2/5
Short review: Marauders is a badly executed generic thriller that seems to exist for no other reason than to further sully Bruce Willis' increasingly rotten reputation.
Movie: Genius
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: Book lovers, history fanatics and art movie fans will leave the cinema satisfied but the film certainly won’t make any “must watch” lists.
Movie: The Idol
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: This mostly true story might fizzle out in its final act but The Idol still succeeds nicely as a largely unpolitical glimpse at perhaps the most controversial and politicised part of the world today.
