Cape Town – The supervillains make their debut on the big screen this weekend.

With the rise of superheroes and super villains, a secret government agency enlists a group of some of America's deadliest killers, thieves and madmen as their own defence against god-like villains and renegade heroes.

There's also a spy drama with Ewan McGregor; Susan Sarandon and J.K Simmons in a drama perfect for a date night with your parents and a local war drama in which a rebellious young man and his ex-military father bond on a 'supernatural' level.

Here are 4 new movies releasing in South Africa today:

Movie: Suicide Squad

Our rating: 2/5

Short review: Despite a very promising first act, Suicide Squad comes undone once its very weak main plot kicks in.

Our rating: 3/5

Short review: A romance for our parents, The Meddler melts through the pain of loss with a hopeless charm.

Movie: My Father's War

Our rating: 2/5

Short review: My Father's War sadly never quite lives up to its own, clearly honourable intentions.

Movie: Our Kind of Traitor

Our rating: 3/5

Short review: Decidedly unremarkable, Our Kind of Traitor is nonetheless a very solid bit of semi-serious spy-drama filmmaking.
