Los Angeles - The new Halloween film has been cancelled.
Bob Weinstein - co-chairman of The Weinstein Company & Dimension Films - promised to deliver "one of the scariest instalments" in the iconic Hollywood horror franchise's history this year.
But Dimension, which owned the franchise for over two decades, has lost the rights meaning the slasher film has been dropped for 2016.
According to EmpireOnline.com, the horror movie's rights are now with Dimension's parent company Miramax and are being thrown around between other studios.
The movie could end up in the hands of a studio like Warner Bros. who own the rights to A Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday the 13th meaning Halloween killer Michael Myers could end up facing off against those series' respective villains Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees.
Freddy vs. Jason saw the two slasher icons battle each other in 2003.
