Cape Town – When Idris Elba put out an open casting call for a new movie he's directing he got more than he bargained for.
The film will centre on an Afro-Caribbean community in Hackney and set in the 1980s.
Over the weekend the actor posted an ad on Instagram for paid actors.
Come Monday, thousands of people turned up for the casting.

Two hours into the audition Idris posted a video on Instagram to give an update on the process.
Because of the big turn out the casting was forced to shut down earlier than expected.
The Evening Standard reported that at around 18:00 the police was called by a staff member to report a large disorderly crowd.
According to a police spokesperson the audition was cancelled by the organisers following a discussion with the police.
