Cape Town – Take off with Brad Pitt in cinemas this weekend.
From Once Upon A Time in Hollywood to outer space, the Fight Club actor is having a resurgence. In Ad Astra, he plays an astronaut who journeys into the solar system to find his missing partner.
Also showing: the much-anticipated Downton Abbey movie, John Rambo has one last score to settle, and the sequel of Angry Birds.
HERE ARE THE 4 NEW FILMS RELEASING IN SA CINEMAS
Movie: Ad Astra
Our rating: 4/5
Short review: Slow, meandering and very self-serious, Ad Astra won't work for everyone, but for those who are willing to go along with it, intellectual and emotional riches await. And, if nothing else, it has Brad Pitt in his second brilliant leading role in as many months.
Movie: Downton Abbey
Our rating: 4/5
Short review: Fans of the television series are obviously going to love every minute of the Downton Abbey movie, but it's so unfailingly charming, big-hearted and funny that it may well even convert some Downton doubters along the way.
Movie: Rambo: Last Blood
Our rating: 1/5
Short review: Sadistic, misogynistic, xenophobic, morally repugnant and entirely unpleasant, Rambo: Last Blood is as close to a truly evil movie as you can hope to find.
Movie: The Angry Birds Movie 2
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: The sequel is similar in concept to the first one, but with a dash of acid and murderous birds mixed into this crazy experiment.
