The 6 best and the 3 most awkward things that happened at the 2016 Golden Globes

Cape Town – The 73rd Golden Globes, the first major awards ceremony of the year, kicked off the season with a bang!

Film and television’s biggest stars came out to celebrate.

Ricky Gervais made his return as host for the fourth time and didn’t hold back!

The night was filled with lots of zingers, awkwardness and plenty of candid and aww-inducing moments.

Here are 6 of our best moments and 3 cringe-worthy moments.

The best moments...

1. Ricky Gervais' opening monologue. Not a single celeb was spared!

2. The hottest presenting duo Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt. Someone in the audience screamed: "WOW!" That was our reaction too.

3. Taraji. P Henson handing out cookies to everyone! And then proceeding to tell the Golden Globes: "You’re gonna wait," while doing her acceptance speech for best actress in a TV series, drama.

4. Leonardo DiCaprio's reaction when Lady Gaga bumped into him. #Priceless

5. Matt Damon’s reaction to Ricky’s Ben Affleck joke. "He's the only person Ben Affleck hasn't been unfaithful to!"

6. Jamie Foxx’s Steve Harvey moment. Yes, it was a dad joke but so funny. And then he followed it up with a sweet speech introducing his daughter Miss Golden Globe, Corinne Fox.

The cringe-worthy

1. Channing Tatum’s hair. We’ll just leave this here.

2. Channing and Jonah Hill’s The Revenant bear skit. Jane Fonda’s reaction totally sums it up. #EpicFail

3. Ricky Gervais and Mel Gibson’s awkward exchange.
