There's a gay Power Ranger and it's absolutely awesome

Cape Town – The big screen reboot of the popular 90s cartoon, Power Rangers is making history in the superhero genre.

It will be the first big budget film to feature an LGBTQI protagonist.

Yellow Ranger Trini's, played by singer Becky G, queer storyline is only a moment in the film but a pivotal one.

The moment in question takes place when another Ranger assumes that Trini is dealing with boyfriend problems but it's really girlfriend problems.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter director Dean Israelite said Trini is questing a lot about who she is.

"She hasn't fully figured it out yet. I think what's great about that scene and what that scene propels for the rest of the movie is, 'That's OK.' The movie is saying, 'That's OK,' and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe," reveals Dean.
