There's a new prince in Aladdin

Cape Town – Disney has added a new prince to the live-action remake of Aladdin. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter Billy Magnussen has been cast as Prince Anders.

The role has been specially created for the movie. 

Screenrant further reports that while details about the role remain unclear he would presumably been in competition for Princess Jasmine's hand.  

Magnussen has some experience playing a prince. He starred in Disney's 2014 musical Into the Woods as Rapunzel's Prince.

The film directed by Guy Ritchie also stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar and Will Smith as the Genie.

A release date for the film has yet to be announced.
