Veteran SA actor chats about his role in new local romcom

Cape Town – Afrikaans romcom Sy Klink Soos Lente hits cinemas nationwide on Friday, 30 September.

The film centres on Ben, a mechanic who meets the woman of his dreams, his boss' daughter. There's a spark between the two and to disguise his identity he tells her he's in a band.

But there's one tiny problem, he's not. So to maintain his lie he sets out and forms a band with his workmates.

We chat to cast member Wilson Dunster about his role.

1. How did you get involved with the film?

I auditioned for Cornè and Stiaan while sitting in my lounge, in a moonboot and on crutches. I had just torn my achilles tendon and was recovering.

2.  Who do you play in the film and are there any similarities between you and your character?

I play oom Fanie, he becomes the lead guitarist in the 'Groenblare' Band. There are some similarities between myself and the character, we are both loners.

3. What was the most challenging thing during filming?

The night shoots we did in Bohemian. During shooting the bar was still open for clients, it was a real eye opener to see the regulars and to chat to them. Some of them are very lonely people, living in a world that I'm unfamiliar with.

4. Why should people go and see the movie?

It's a feel-good movie. It's very real and very funny.
