Veteran SA actor in hospital after undergoing heart surgery

Cape Town - Well-known Afrikaans actor Marius Weyers is currently recovering in the ICU at the Busamed Paardevlei Private Hospital in Cape Town.

According to a report by Netwerk24 journalist Romantha Botha, the 72-year-old veteran actor underwent a successful heart valve replacement surgery.

Weyers is a seasoned South African actor and has played numerous roles both on the big and small screen. He’s perhaps best known for his work in Blood Diamond, The Gods Must Be Crazy and Gandhi.

He’s latest project The Recce will hit South African cinemas in September this year. Weyers plays the role of General Piet Visagie in the locally produced film that centres on the story of a young recce wrongfully declared dead behind enemy lines.
