Cape Town – Denzel Washington has just thrown his hat into the ring for awards season 2018.
The Academy Award winner stars in the dramatic thriller Roman J. Israel, Esq by director Dan Gilroy (Night Crawler).
Washington plays Roman J. Israel, an idealistic defense attorney whose life is upended when a series of events challenge the activism that has defined his career.
Colin Farrell plays George an ambitious, monied lawyer who recruits Roman to his firm.
Other cast members include: Carmen Ejogo, Lynda Gravatt, Amanda Warren, Hugo Armstrong, Sam Gilroy, Tony Plana, DeRon Horton and Amari Cheatom.
The film premiered at Toronto Film Festival last month with rave review for Washington's performance. Variety called it "a high-wire performance" and "one of his most daring and compelling".
