WATCH: Leo’s Oscar acceptance speech will make you want to save the world

Cape Town - The crowd rose to their feet in ovation that left everyone with goosebumps when Leonardo DiCaprio finally accepted his Academy award for Best Actor for his role in The Revenant.

This was DiCaprio’s sixth nomination for the prestige award and he used his win to focus on something very important.

"Don’t take this planet for granted, I don’t take this award for granted," Leo said while clutching the gold statuette.

Rather than boasting about his own success, the award winner (boy, we need to get used to saying that) dedicated his Oscar to all indigenous communities around the world and brought attention to the need to protect these cultures and preserve their history and lands from corporate interests.

He also showed great gratitude and humility for this "incredible honour" and thanked the film’s director Alejandro González Iñárritu for his leadership and vision in depicting much of life’s reality through his film-making.

He also thanked fellow actors, such as Tom Hardy, and everyone involved in the film.

And of course, Leo's win took social media by storm:
